The West Virginia Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) is a system for electronically delivering SNAP and WV Works monthly cash assistance. Benefits are accessed with a plastic debit card, also known as the Mountain State Card or by direct deposit (WV Works only).

Eligibility requirements and the amount of assistance received do not change under EBT. Once approved, an EBT account is opened under the client’s name and Food Stamp and/or WV Works benefits are electronically deposited into the account on a monthly basis.

To redeem EBT benefits in West Virginia, cardholders must shop at an authorized retailer and swipe their EBT card through a point-of-sale device. You’ll be asked to enter your personal identification number (PIN) to authorize the transaction. If you wish to check the balance on your West Virginia EBT card, keep reading below.

Option 1 – Access the West Virginia EBT Card website:

The first option for obtaining your EBT balance is to access the West Virginia EBT website (UCard Center) for retrieving the balance on your Mountain State Card. You can log onto the UCard Center, here. You’ll need your User ID and Password in order to login and obtain your balance. If you do not have a User ID and Password, then you can register for the UCard Center. Please have your EBT Card information (card number and PIN) ready. Once you log into your EBT account, you’ll be able to access your current EBT card balance, as well as the last 10 transactions on your card.

Option 2 – Locate your Last Receipt:

Another way to check the balance on your Mountain State Card is by finding your last transaction receipt. Your receipt will have your most current available balance on your EBT Card at the bottom. It is important to save all receipts if you wish to have access to your current EBT card balance.
