South Dakota Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) is a system responsible for the electronic distribution of benefits and payments to recipients. The electronic distribution technology includes debit cards, prepaid debit cards and direct deposit. This ensures convenient, rapid and secure transfer of benefits to the recipient. South Dakota EBT allows Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to be issued and redeemed on a plastic debit-like card. Recipients can redeem their benefits at an eligible point of sale terminal with their EBT Card and 4-digit personal identification number (PIN). Benefits can be used to purchase eligible household items and groceries/food items at authorized retailers. For more information on eligible food items, access the US Department of Agriculture, here. To find out if a retailer is authorized, look for the South Dakota EBT sign on their store window.
