The Maryland EBT Card, also called the Independence Card, is a card like a debit card that holds the Food Stamp and/or cash benefits deposited into your EBT account each month. The Independence Card is administered by the Maryland Department of Human Resources. This post is about how to get the balance on your Maryland EBT Independence Card.
Maryland EBT Card Balance
There are 3 ways to check the balance on your Maryland EBT Independence Card:
Option 1 – Check Your Last Receipt:
The first option to checking your EBT balance is to view your last receipt. If you look at the bottom of your last purchase receipt, you will find the EBT amount remaining on your Independence Card. Be sure to check this before you go shopping, so that you know how much you have to spend.
Option 2 – Call the Maryland EBT Independence Card Phone Number:
Your second option for checking the balance on your Independence Card is to call the Customer Service Call Center at 1-800-997-2222. Your EBT balance will be provided as soon as you enter your card number, so make sure you have this handy.
Option 3 – Visit the Maryland EBT Independence Card Website:
You can also check the balance on your Independence Card by visiting the Maryland EBT Card website. You must first set up an account User ID and Password before you can check your account balance and view transaction history.

In a case that your Independence Card is lost or stolen, call the Customer Service Call Center immediately to prevent anyone from using your benefits.
Call the Customer Service Call Center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if:
- You just received your card in the mail. You will need to activate your card and select a PIN to begin using your benefits
- You received a vault card and need to select or change your PIN
- You forgot or want to change your PIN
- Your card is lost, stolen or damaged
- Your card does not work
