Can I use my EBT card at Sam’s Club?

Today, we are going to address whether or not Sam’s Club will accept an EBT card as a form of payment. Sam’s Club is a chain of membership-only retail warehouse clubs owned and operated by Walmart. Sam’s Club prides itself on providing exceptional wholesale club values on TVs, mattresses, business and office supplies, groceries and more. As of September 2016, Sam’s Club operates 655 membership warehouse clubs in the United States. To find out if Sam’s Club accepts EBT cards as a form of payment, keep reading below.

Can I use my EBT card at Sam’s Club?

Yes, you can use your EBT card at any of the 655 Sam’s Club locations in the United States. EBT cards cannot be used to make purchases online at the Sam’s Club website and you must be a registered member of Sam’s Club to make purchases to avoid incurring additional fees. To redeem your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at Sam’s Club using your EBT card, simply select the items you wish to purchase as normal and checkout at any of their available cash register terminals. You can use your EBT card just like a normal debit card at the cash register terminal. Once you swipe your card, you’ll be prompted to enter your 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). You must have this information in order to complete the transaction. Be sure to only select eligible food items when redeeming SNAP benefits at Sam’s Club using your EBT card.

  • Dairy/Non-Dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc.)
  • Fresh, Frozen and Canned Fruits
  • Fresh, Frozen and Canned Vegetables
  • Fresh and Frozen Seafood (fish, shrimp, etc.)
  • Poultry (chicken breast/thighs/drumsticks, turkey breast, etc.)
  • Pork products (pork chops, pork tenderloin, bacon, pork sausage, etc.)
  • Red Meat (steak, ground beef, ribs, etc.)
  • Dessert Items (ice cream, brownies, cookies, etc.)
  • Candy (Hershey’s, Snickers, Reese’s, etc.)
  • Frozen food items (frozen meals, french fries, etc.)
  • Soft Drinks (Dr.Pepper, Arizona Tea, Juice, etc.)
  • Snack Crackers and Chips (potato chips, crackers, pretzels, etc.)
  • Cooking Oils (olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc.)
  • Seeds, Nuts and Plants (cashews, nut variety packs, peanut butter, etc.)

Your EBT card cannot be used to purchase supplement products such as protein bars, protein powder or hot, prepared foods at Sam’s Club. More items that cannot be purchased at Sam’s Club using your EBT card include vitamins, medicine, household products, cleaning supplies, alcohol, tobacco, feminine products and cosmetics.
